A selection of hair care tips to get black hair in top condition.

Hair Care Tips

    • When combing out your hair start from the tips and work towards the roots, it will be less painful and less damaging to the hair.
    • If you’ve got a very dry flaky scalp sort it out or you might start developing bald patches around your hairline.
    • For bad dandruff, wash your hair at least once a week over a period of about 4 weeks with a good anti-dandruff shampoo like Nizoral.
    • Have a regular trim to remove split ends. It may pain you to lose some length but in the long run your hair will be left in much better condition.
    • If you find your hair keeps breaking, especially at the front then a course of moisturising treatments can help to alleviate the problem.
    • Try not to repeat the same 'pull-back' hairstyle too often, whether it's in cornrow, braids or a bun. Continually stressing the hair in that way will cause it to weaken around the edges.
    • Are you fed up of your hair frizzing up whenever you step out into damp and humid air? Try using an oil based moisturiser, this acts as a barrier to the air's moisture, stops it from entering the cuticles and causing your hair to swell.
    • If you are visiting a new hair stylist (or even your usual one) be sure they take into account what product you used previously - different products can react in such a way as to damage your hair.
    • At least once a week you should apply a good quality oil and wash it out the next day. I recommend Vatika, jojoba and almond oil.
    • If you're trying to grow your hair long, it is best to keep your hair well mositurized, to prevent breakage. This will mean less trips to the salon for hair trimming.
