It’s your hair ... and now you can do whatever you want to do with it! Today’s Black woman can choose from any styling option she wishes without fear of being out of style. Everything is in – from short to long, curly to straight, natural or permed. African American hair has evolved; and you’re going to love it! No longer do you have to settle for cookie-cutter curls and thermal straightened bobs, but you can indulge in liberating styles that express your inner self and release your natural beauty.

Today’s innovative Black hair styles are the result of a global culture which embraces diversity and celebrates differences. Affluent African Americans travel from coast to coast and continent to continent sampling the latest trends in fashion, makeup and hair care, and they’re bringing them home to us!

Black entertainers and celebrities like Mary J. Blige, Beyonce Knowles, Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, and Halle Berry are making their mark in the fashion world, setting the standard for beauty and giving us styling options like never before. In the 90s, when Patti, aka Ms. Divine, walked onto the stage with her sculptured hair, hoop earrings and short skirts, she made a fashion statement that resounded around the globe. Soon Black women across the nation were emboldened to wear their hair in beautifully groomed, sculptural styles. And when Halle Berry’s short cropped, naturally curly coif debuted in the James Bond remake, Goldfinger, Black women from Hollywood to Hoboken hurried to their local salons for the same sexy style.

Stevie was the first male celebrity to wear long shoulder-length braids and soon Black men were seen proudly sporting their Stevie-look-alike dos. Mary J. Blige and Beyonce made blond for Black women beautiful, setting a golden trend which has had an enduring impact on African American women of almost every age. Just when we thought we’d seen it all, India Ari set yet another trend for beautiful baldness and no hair at all!

So what’s your particular pleasure? Tired of your usual do? Why not try a new cut for a change of pace. And for a night out on the town, add a little Mary J. bling with the latest semi-permanent metallic rinse, or lengthen those tresses with a long, luxurious Beyonce bob to make your own red carpet entrance simply amazing.

When it comes to styling your hair, break out of the box, think outside of the envelope and start your own craze! It’s your hair and you’re free to do just what you want to do.
